PNE dip into loan market

Preston North End manager Phil Brown has stated that his team looks “a little bit stronger” after a trio of loan players arrived at Deepdale this week. Jonathan Forte joins Southampton team-mate Sam Hoskins in the one-month loan move as Brown looks to bolster the strikeforce, which he believes has been “lost” through inury in recent weeks. Iain Turner’s injury means that German shot stopper Thorsten Stuckmann also makes the switch from¬†Alemannia Aachen.

Wycombe Wanderers 3-4 Preston North End

Preston North End came from behind to win in a seven goal thriller at Adams Park this evening, earning a 7th consecutive league victory and a 2nd place perch in League One.

After going 2-0 down, Wycombe went in 3-2 up at the break thanks to goals from Gareth Ainsworth, Scott Donnelly and Stuart Beavon. But Neil Mellor and Iain Hume completed their braces in the second half to seal another impressive North End victory.

Saints make it to 4th round at fortress St. Mary’s

Southampton beat Preston North End 2-1 at St. Mary’s to progress to the 4th round of the League Cup, marking a record 14th consecutive home win for the club. Adam Barton levelled the score in the 52nd minute after a simple header from Jos Hooiveld gave the hosts the advantage in the first half. However, Southampton dominated the game – Barton’s equaliser was against the run of play – and inspired substitute Adam Lallana fired in the winning goal with only his second touch of the game, giving the Saints a deserved victory.

Confident North End make it six in a row

Preston just can’t stop scoring recently; in-form Neil Mellor grabbed his second brace in as many games either side of a wondrous Iain Hume strike to put North End into the play-off places with two games in hand. Mellor gave North End the lead inside 10 minutes, and Hume’s 25-yard rocket restored it after a Niall McGinn tap-in levelled things up in the 21st minute. Then, with a little over 15 minutes left on the clock, Mellor put the game beyond doubt with a volley from inside the Brentford area, tallying his 4th goal in two games.
